CO oxidation on TiO2 supported gold catalysts

چکیده

The aim within this project was to optimise the CO oxidation over TiO2 supported gold catalysts, focusing on two different preparation methods; deposition precipitation (DP) and photodeposition (PD), using different types of TiO2 and varying the theoretical gold loading. The catalyst were characterised with TEM (size) and ICP-AES (loading). For DP catalysts, the support is important for high activity, in contrast to PD catalysts. DP catalysts were found to be superior over PD, regarding CO oxidation activity. The activity seems to be independent of the theoretical gold loading for PD catalysts. Yet, this is probably due to the gold deposit not decreasing enough when the theoretical gold loading is decreased.

CO oxidation over Au/TiO2 prepared from metal-organic gold complexes

Although the early publications by Bond et al. [1,2] and Parravano et al. [3,4] reported that small gold particles exhibited catalytic activity for some reactions, such as hydrogenation of olefins and oxygen transfer reactions, gold was generally considered to be catalytically inactive [5]. Over the past 20 years, the volume of literature on the application of gold catalysts has been steadily i...

Influence of TiO2 bulk defects on the CO adsorption and CO oxidation on Au/TiO2 – Electronic metal-support interactions (EMSI) in supported Au catalysts

Electronic metal-support interactions (EMSI) are demonstrated to severely affect the CO oxidation activity and the CO adsorption properties of Au/TiO2 catalysts. Bulk oxygen vacancies, generated by a strongly reductive pre-treatment of Au/TiO2 at elevated temperature in 10% CO/N2, significantly lower the catalytic activity for CO oxidation at 80°C. With time on stream, the activity slowly incre...

Sintering of Au Particles Supported on TiO2(110) during CO Oxidation

Sintering of supported metal catalysts is of primary interest in heterogeneous catalysis. The presence of reactant gases, especially oxidants, often accelerates the sintering of supported metal catalysts. Our in situ studies using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) compare the sintering of Au particles supported on TiO2(110) in the presence of CO, O2, or mixtures of the two gases. The results ...

Competition of CO and H2 for Active Oxygen Species during the Preferential CO Oxidation (PROX) on Au/TiO2 Catalysts

Aiming at an improved mechanistic understanding of the preferential oxidation of CO on supported Au catalysts, we have investigated the competition between CO and H2 for stable, active oxygen (Oact) species on a Au/TiO2 catalyst during the simultaneous exposure to CO and H2 with various CO/H2 ratios at 80 ̋C and 400 ̋C by quantitative temporal analysis of products (TAP) reactor measurements. It...

Preparation and comparison of supported gold nanocatalysts on anatase, brookite, rutile, and P25 polymorphs of TiO2 for catalytic oxidation of CO.

Nanosized anatase (< or = 10 nm), rutile (< or = 10 nm), and brookite (approximately 70 nm) titania particles have been successfully synthesized via sonication and hydrothermal methods. Gold was deposited with high dispersion onto the surfaces of anatase, rutile, brookite, and commercial titania (P25) supports through a deposition-precipitation (D-P) process. All catalysts were exposed to an id...
